OK… I have to come clean. I am a stock photographer and actually bought and used a few microstock photos on a recent design project. Admission is the first step to healing. Over the years I have done many design projects even though I’ve primarily worked as a digital artist and photographer. One advantage I have is being able to do my own photography for a project. Recently I had a project where I was envisioning some type of water shots to incorporate in the marketing material of a company were I designed the corporate ID. I have done plenty of work with liquids before so I could have produced the shots myself. Because of limited time I took a different approach- I used iStockphoto. Truth be told this is exactly how iStockphoto started. It was meant to be a site where designers could exchange art they created for somthing else they needed– sort of a barter system. Of course it has advanced well beyond that, however it is filling the same niche. Honestly my client didn’t have the budget for me to set up and shoot these type of shots for him. In the end he got a great value. For me it was a great chance to see the stock photo world from the buyers perspective. So below are some examples of the results.
